News Release

Celebrate Mother’s Day by Supporting Newborns in Need

Tickets now on sale for Basically Babies’ Mother’s Day Brunch and Silent Auction -

Edmonton, AB, April 10, 2012

Are you looking for a unique way to celebrate Mother’s Day? Begin a new tradition this year by attending the Basically Babies Second Annual Mother’s Day Brunch and Silent Auction.
The event is scheduled for May 12, 2012 at the Faculty Club at the University of Alberta and is a great chance for family and friends to come together and celebrate motherhood with a delicious brunch, engaging speakers and a fabulous silent auction, all while supporting families in extreme need in our community.

While this is only the second year that the charity has held the event, it has been many years in the making. “We wanted to develop a signature event that would reflect who we are and what we do”, says Shannon Stewart, the organization’s founder and president. “With our focus on families and newborns in need, a Mother’s Day Brunch is the perfect fit”.

Basically Babies works to provide for the basic outfitting needs of newborn babies born to families in extreme need in the greater Edmonton area. The organization offers the gift of a complete first year’s wardrobe for these infants in the form of a beautiful color-coordinated basket filled with clothing, outerwear, blankets, toys, storybooks, sleepers, undershirts, footwear and other baby essentials.

“Our recipients may be new to Canada, homeless, struggling with addictions, or may still be children themselves but, like all parents, they love their children”, says Caitlin Goyeau, Manager of Funding and Development, “Our goal is to communicate, in a practical way, a sense of the hope and promise that our community has to offer”.

Guests of the Basically Babies Mother’s Day Brunch and Silent Auction will have the opportunity to bid on nearly 100 items, including donations from the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, Michael Anthony Jewelers, and Greenland Garden Centre.

Tickets are $40 each and may be purchased in person at the Basically Babies office (4812 – 93rd Avenue) or by calling 780-989-0180. Special thanks to event sponsors Tailor Made Insurance, Sturgeon Valley Fertilizers and CTV.
